Disney Star Wars-Themed Hotel Rendering

Excitement was riding high in Tokyo on Monday, as Disney fans from all over the world convened at the D23 Expo Japan. The highlight of the multi-day fan expo was a presentation by Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, who took to the stage to reveal exciting new updates in store for Disney parks around the world.

Whether you’re looking for more Marvel, more Star Wars or just more Disney, there's sure to be an update that will have you calling your travel agent and booking a Disney getaway.

Toy Story Land

Opening this summer at the Magic Kingdom, the new 11-acre Toy Story Land will “shrink” guests to the size of Woody and Buzz, and send them exploring Andy’s backyard. Two major new attractions should draw the crowds, including Slinky Dog Dash—a family-friendly coaster—and Alien Swirling Saucers. Guests can also do a quick fuel up at Woody's Lunch Box.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Set to open in 2019, at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park, both new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge lands will include a full-sized fleet of X-wing starfighters and a life-size Millennium Falcon starship. The two attractions will send guests into the heart of the galaxy. The first puts them inside a Star Destroyer, where they will experience a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. In the other attraction, guests will have the chance to helm the Millennium Falcon. There will also be character interactions with Chewie and members of the First Order, and a street market toy shop run by a Toydarian, one of the creatures from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Star Wars-Themed Hotel

Teased at the D23 Expo in Anaheim last July, The Star Wars-themed hotel promises to be “unlike anything that exists today” and will completely immerse guests in an authentic Star Wars story. At the event, Chapek revealed more details, letting attendees know the new hotel will be “seamlessly” connected to the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The experience begins the moment guests arrive, as they board a starship and depart for their multi-day Star Wars adventure. An opening date for the new hotel is still pending.

Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction at Epcot

Based on the action-packed "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies, this new family attraction will feature a brand-new, innovative ride system and will also be one of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world. The new attraction will open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021 at Epcot Future World.

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Although many lamented the loss of The Great Movie Ride, the replacement will be the first-ever ride-through attraction themed around Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway will feature a new original story and theme song, as it winds guests through an experience replicating the "Mickey Mouse" cartoon shorts. New technologies promise to transform two-dimensional cartoons into a multi-dimensional experience.

New Show at Disney's Animal Kingdom

For people keeping track, Disney's Animal Kingdom is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. To celebrate, a new show will debut at the theme park April 22. Narrated by Russell and Dug from Disney Pixar's "Up," the show will explore bird species from around the world.

Pixar Pier

Disney California Adventure park will welcome its new Pixar Pier on June 23. The attraction will feature four neighborhoods, each representing a Pixar story, with related attractions, food and merchandise. Pixar Pier will also showcase the new Incredicoaster, a combination of character figures, lighting and special effects that will have guests racing alongside the Parr in a high-speed adventure.

Paint the Night

Also coming to Disney California Adventure in June is a new float for the popular “Paint the Night” parade featuring Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone from “The Incredibles.”

Disneyland Paris

At D23 Expo Japan, Disney shared images of one of the new rooms at the Disney’s Hotel New York—The Art of Marvel, which is scheduled to open in 2020 next to Disneyland Paris.

It was also revealed that Marvel characters will enjoy a new space at Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris. The new Marvel Super Hero universe will replace the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, which will be totally reimagined as a high-speed, “hyper-kinetic adventure,” where guests can team up with Iron Man and their favorite Avengers.

Adventures by Disney Heads to Japan

Adventures by Disney announced that it would start offering a new Japan vacation, with plenty of hands-on cultural experiences starting next year. The new Adventures by Disney itinerary should open for bookings this spring.
